Shreyas Iyer Openly Admits the Involvement of KKR CEO Venky Mysore in Team Selections

Kolkata Knight Riders have been up and down in the whole season with the most number of alterations with way too many players used. They have recorded the most number of players that represented any side in the competition. They are also the side that made the most number of changes up until now. With a comfortable 52 run win over the five time champions Mumbai Indians, they have kept their hopes of making it to the playoffs this season, with some help from some other results. It is highly unlikely that KKR could aim for a top two finish, but mathematically they have a great chance of sneaking into the top four this year.

Even though they had a great start to the season, their performance dipped as the tournament progressed. The two time champions registered three wins in their first four games, but then came a five match losing streak that altered everything for them. They started to lose games with players not performing up to their standards and the frequent changes to the side had made things really difficult for everyone. Eventually, they were dragged down to the bottom half of the table. They were still doubtful of their best lineup and that could sum up their whole season. They have faced some constant criticism for the same reason by many people.

It is really difficult to tell players that they won’t play: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, the captain of KKR franchise had spoken to the media about the changes that occur in their side. After the game against Mumbai, Shreyas openly admitted that players find it really difficult when they are being dropped from the side and at times the CEO of the franchise, Venky Mysore is also involved in team selection.

“It is really difficult (to tell players they won’t play. Coach and at times, CEO is also obviously involved in team selections,” Shreyas Iyer told Star Sports.

“Each and every player takes it well, and they have put in their best efforts. The win was comprehensive, and when I spoke to the players, they were pumped up to win the game today,” he added.

However, Shreyas was satisfied with the entire results of the match, as his team easily reached the finish line. He also praised Venkatesh Iyer’s quickfire 43 within the powerplay.

“I am very pleased because after losing the last game by a big margin, it feels good to come back and win by a big margin is nice. We had a nice start in the powerplay and Venky targeted the bowlers well. I personally felt that it wasn’t easy to start a new batter,” Shreyas stated.

This statement by Shreyas Iyer has gained public attention and people are now starting to question the role of CEO and others in selecting a side of such a tournament like the IPL. Shreyas Iyer has given out a bold statement that could affect his future at the franchise. There have been many tussles among franchise owners and cricketers previously like the ones we have seen between Warner and the Sunrisers. Many people are in support of the young Indian batters as he had the guts to speak out the routh before everyone.
